Curricular Areas

In the Convent Junior School we have three full-time and two part-time Special Education Support Teachers (SET). The role of the SET teacher is to support students that are experiencing difficulty in the areas of Literacy and Numeracy as well as supporting children that may have specific learning needs due to an impairment or learning difficulty.

The SET team are familiar with a wide range of teaching approaches, methodologies and resources to cater for particular learning styles and to meet a variety of needs. Teaching approaches will include a combination of station-teaching, team-teaching initiatives, early intervention and small group or individual support.

In consultation with the class teachers and parents, SET teachers plan their interventions carefully to address the priority learning needs of pupils. They set specific time-related targets for each child. Outcomes for pupils are routinely assessed, recorded and used to review progress.
