Board of Management
The Bishop of Clogher Liam Mc Daid is the patron of the school. In this capacity he appoints a Board of Management to oversee the running of the school on behalf of the local Catholic community. The function of the Board of Management is to create a working environment which promotes the learning and welfare of students and which facilitates the professional development and welfare of school personnel. The Board of Management is responsible for the effective running of the school – appointing staff, general maintenance and policy making.
The Board of Management of the Convent Junior School was constituted on December 1st, 2019. The term of this Board of Management is 4 years until 2027. The board of management/manager(s) is the body of persons or the person(s) appointed by the patron to manage the school on behalf of the patron. The functions of the board of management are set out in Section 15 of the Education Act, 1998 which provides that it shall be the duty of the Board to “manage the school on behalf of the patron and for the benefit of the students and their parents and to provide or cause to be provided an appropriate education for each student at the school for which that board has responsibility”. Section 15 of the Education Act, 1998 also provides that a “board shall perform the functions conferred on it and on a school by this Act”.
At the Convent Junior School, the Board of Management is very active under the experienced guidance of our Chairperson, Mr. Peter McMahon who has always worked tirelessly to ensure that our school embodies its motto to “be the best we can be!”
The Board has 9 members comprised as follows:
2 nominated by the Bishop,
2 other community members,
2 teachers
3 parents of children in the school (1 father and 2 mothers)
The Board of Management is appointed for a four year term. The current Board members are:
